Hey! So it was recently my birthday, and so obviously I picked up a few books between my trip to NYC, gifts, and just treating myself. In this post I'm going to be doing a little rundown of my latest shelf additions!

1.) Powerful

Powerful is a novella from the Powerless series that follows Paedyn's best friend Adena during the events of the first book. Naturally, in already having read Powerless, I know the ending, but I am extremely interested in learning more about Adena as she wasn't extremely present in the first book, but yet played such a major role. I am also excited to learn more about life on the streets of The Loot, the slums where Paedyn and Adena live, and their lifestyle there through Adena's perspective.

2.) Reckless

As the second book in the Powerless series, I am so excited yet extremely afraid to read this book. I already know the ending since I'm a little late in reading this series, but I know it will be just as painful anyway because of the tension Lauren Roberts creates. I got the Barnes and Noble Exclusive Edition of this book, and while I am super happy about the bonus content, I think I do like the original cover better. I prefer the red poppy petals instead of the blue on my copy, especially since I've heard about the flower's symbolism in the book. Either way, this book is getting read very soon, so expect a review.

3.) Lightlark

I really don't know much about this book rather than it is a recently completed trilogy, about some kind of deadly game, and that the cover is absolutely beautiful and shiny. Apparently I've been in the mood for some kind of deadly competition in reading Powerless and The Hunger Games this year, so this book seemed right on trend!!

4.) The Thirteenth Child

This book intrigued me because it's about a girl that has been promised to the god of death and is a healer with the ability to tell if Death has claimed a victim, but then has to "end that person's suffering." Doesn't it seem a little contradictory for a healer? I don't know, but it sounds like an interesting and unique read, perhaps for next year's spooky season (that is if I can wait that long).

5.) The Pumpkin Spice Cafe

I have seen this book across social media platforms this fall and I have been wanting to see for myself what all the hype is about. Luckily, my sister gifted me this book so I could read it before the end of fall! Just based on the cover, it looks like I really cute read, but I'm not always that big on romance novels. I'm not exactly a Hallmark type of person, so I'm hoping for a bit more literary fiction elements and not a 100% romance focused plot.
